FAQs

Common questions.

What does a retina specialist do?

A retina specialist diagnoses and treats diseases of the retina and vitreous, the back part of the eye, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachment.

Are floaters dangerous?

Most long-standing floaters are harmless. But a sudden increase in floaters, especially with flashes or a shadow over vision, needs an urgent retina examination to rule out a tear or detachment.

Are retinal injections painful?

The eye is numbed with drops first. Most people feel only brief pressure. The procedure itself takes a few minutes.

Will my vision come back after treatment?

It depends on the condition and how early it is treated. The aim of treatment is to protect and, where possible, improve vision. Dr. Somya will explain what to expect for your eyes.

Where is retinal surgery performed?

Consultations, laser planning and follow-up are at Theia. Surgery is performed by Dr. Somya at a partner hospital such as Eye Veda, Synergy Eye Care or Fortis Hospital.
