ICL implantation · Vasant Kunj, New Delhi

ICL: vision correction for high power and thin corneas

An Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a thin, flexible lens placed inside the eye in front of your natural lens. It corrects vision without removing any corneal tissue.

  • Suitable for high minus power
  • An option when LASIK is not
  • Removable if ever needed

Who ICL is for

When ICL may be the better choice.

High power

Very high minus (and some plus) powers beyond the comfortable range for laser.

Thin or irregular corneas

When the cornea is not suitable for LASIK or SMILE.

Dry eyes

ICL doesn’t cut corneal nerves, so it is often kinder to dry eyes.

Wanting a reversible option

The lens can be removed or exchanged if needed.

Your ICL journey

What to expect.

Detailed measurements

Power, corneal and eye measurements to size the lens precisely.

Lens ordering

The ICL is made to your measurements, which can take a little time.

Procedure

A short day-care procedure under anaesthetic drops at Eye Veda, Synergy Eye Care or Fortis Hospital.

Recovery

Vision usually improves within a day or two, with follow-up visits to check pressure and healing.

Things to know

Benefits and considerations.

ICL can give sharp, stable vision for people who cannot have laser correction. Because no tissue is removed, the cornea stays intact.

Like any eye surgery it has risks, which Dr. Somya will explain. Regular follow-up is important to check eye pressure and lens position.

  • No corneal tissue removed
  • Can be removed or exchanged
  • Regular follow-up recommended

FAQs

Common questions.

Is ICL better than LASIK?

Neither is better for everyone. ICL is often preferred for high power or thin corneas, while LASIK, Contoura or SMILE may suit others. Your tests decide.

Can people see the lens in my eye?

No. The ICL sits behind the iris (the coloured part of the eye) and is not visible.

Is the ICL permanent?

It is designed to stay in the eye long-term, but it can be removed or exchanged if ever needed.

Are both eyes done on the same day?

Practice varies. Often the eyes are treated a short time apart. Dr. Somya will advise you.
